Hunt Smart

Allotta Fagina's Hunt Smart Guide

Many new players make numerous mistakes right from the very start because they just don’t know any better. They see the high level players walking around in their Supremacy armor carrying their adjusted uber weapons and they think, "Hey I want to be like them" so they run to the auction terminal and start spending money like crazy buying all sorts of armor and weapons that leave their credit cards smoking afterwards. This is all fine and good if you just love burning money but you are here to learn to hunt smart.

First let’s discuss the benefits of sweating, although boring and monotonous it gives great skills that will make you a better and more efficient hunter like evade and athletics plus mental abilities as well. Sweating is really one of the few ways to get started without depositing any money into the game. Spend enough time sweating and you can earn enough PED to buy your first weapon and some affordable armor to get started hunting.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS use a Skill Increase Bonus (SIB) weapon until you can’t use/find or afford one anymore. The difference in skill increase is huge and will pay for itself, this means starting with tt weapons, they aren't sexy they don’t hit really hard but they are cheap and most of them have excellent durability which means they are cheap to use.

Always hunt mobs that are at your current skill level, for example a new player coming to the game should do the following, first buy a tt weapon in their preffered combat skill i.e. rifle, handgun, longblade etc. next either start off with Settler armor available at the tt or better yet find a set of either Pixie or Goblin armor. The armor type will also determine the type of mob that should be hunted, for example Pixie armor is excellent low level Impact armor. Pixie is inexpensive and since you wont have any defensive skills like evade and dodge and your athletics will be low to start with you will get hit allot. So inexpensive armor that is cheap to repair is a good first choice. Sure you could spend a sizeable fortune on high level armor but you will go broke maintaining it with such low defensive skills. Alternatively you could start with Goblin armor which is best used for acid attack mobs like Snablesnots.

Once you've earned some extra ped you can consider adding some additonal affordable armor plates to make your armor better for example you could beef up your Pixie armor by adding some Mark 1A armor plates to add addtional impact protection. A full set of 6 plates go for around tt +1 so around 20 ped for a full set. Just remember that all armor and armor plates are designed for specific purposes so use them to hunt what they intend to protect your from.

Once you start hunting your chosen entry level mobs you will begin looting armor pieces that you can use right away to hunt other types of mobs at your skill level as well as weapons, med kits etc. Remember that EU is a skill based game so every click that you do in game will raise some of your skills, although this won't always be obvious. For example you could use a Marber Bravo to one shot a Snablesnot but considering the ammo burn and degradation cost to the rifle this would be rather foolish not to mention that using a tt Solomate Opallo and having to fire 10 times to kill the beast will give you 10 skill clicks instead of just one, throw in the SIB and it all should become clear.

I know you won’t see many HoF's on Snablesnots, Daikibas or Exarosaurs but they can and do happen more now than ever before it would seem. You might want to go after those Hoglos' but remember you are a smart player so you will wait until you have invested in your skills enough to make you efficient at hunting anything in the EU.

Another good idea is to make friends with crafters that use the materials you loot, make the right friends and you might be able to get deals on crafted weapons and armor sets. Remember that some items are worth much more than others so pay attention to the market values of the loots you get.

Remember Hunting is a Profession so you will need to invest in your career before you can expect to become really efficient and perhaps even profitable. However there is always the element of pure luck in EU and you could be the first 40k PED Snablesnot HoF winner.

Now get out there and kill something will you.
