Mining Trips

From Entropia Directory wiki

A good thing with mining trips is there are almost no boundaries to your trips...the open land to the forest and mountains are all your playground. The only places that cannot be mined are inside buildings or water.

Depending on your skills (and PED), you can go on short trips or long expeditions. 20 PED in bombs or probes make a good short trip, while 50 or more can make for longer trips.

The required equipment is a ore/ematter finder and extractor. Refiners are optional however if you find alot of minerals you may wish to carry one to minimize your weight. Probes (ematter) and bombs (ore) are required as these are the 'ammo' for the finders.

A good thing to do is start in the middle of an empty field or forest. These places tend to lack the popularity of being constantly mined, so there may be whole sections of Calypso full of ores and enmatters untouched.

While many theories have been analyzed, from mining on dark multi-colored ground to close near shore lines, none have proven effective tools for mining. Skill gains also indicate an area may hold a deposit.

Most times you drop a probe/bomb, you will get the message 'No resources found'. However should you hit something the finder will inform you of the size, type and direction to the cliam. Using the extractor you drill the cliam marker until it dissapears. Note the time remaining on the resource deed.

If you get a hit, instead of extracting it immediately, pick a direction and continue to mine. While some might be confused by this, it helps map locations of hits, and can also indicate veins, or places where multiple hits are lined up in a row.

After a run you can sell your finds to crafters, or back to the Trade Terminal (though not recommended since you will get lower profits from the TT). Grab more probes or bombs, then go out mining again.

Few tips

  • While after you mine a spot and its no longer contain anything, return a few days later. Most deposits return to around the same area, so something to keep in mind. (Again, not 100% true)
  • While mining enmatter is cheaper than ores (50 PEC per probe compared to 1 PED per bomb), ore deposits tend to be larger in size.
  • To boost your mining sizes, try a mining amp. These are good tools to help find bigger deposits, but are Limited items and can wear out fast and cannot be repaired.
  • For CND mining, scope your mining path before you go carpet bombing. Alot of miners there leave any claims they find up, thus you could risk trying to mine a dead field.
  • Expect losses. While efficient (or lucky) miners break even during their trips, unskilled miners may be disappointed in the lack of finds when they begin. But once you get better equipment and higher skills, you will break even or profit more often.
