An overview of the Oil Rig – the Oil Rig is in the middle of the square formed by the four hills

The Oil Rig is a place of interest located near the centre of PvP #2 (coordinates 24300, 8300). This structure is located within the midst of four hills, one each to the north, south, east, and west of it. Located in a sandy enviroment, the Oil Rig is occasically plagued by the Atroxes that roam PvP #2. The Oil Rig generates barrels of Crude Oil every 7-30 minutes, with a quantity of 500-1500 units of oil per spawn. This oil can be picked up by anyone who is quick enough to grab it before anyone else does.

The Rig was introduced into the Universe with VU 4.4, on the 4th April 2003.

How to get there

There are three ways to get to the Oil Rig – one is via running down from Nymphtown, another is running right from Twin Peaks and the last one is to swim north-east from Fort Troy.

Among these three ways to get there, swimming from Fort Troy would be one of the safest but also the slowest. Running down from Nymphtown is dangerous but is the shortest way, especially if you have a TP chip. Walking along the beach / swimming from Twin Peaks is probably the best way for new players as it is more or less safe and takes less time than swimming from Fort Troy.

Getting blasted at the present-day oil rig

Contrary to the contents of one of the first ingame messages you will receive, telling you about sweating and the oil rig, the oil rig is not a good place for new players to make money.

Firstly, it is hard to get to as it is far away from Port Atlantis, where most new players spawn. It is also in the Atrox-infested PvP #2. Even if one has managed to get past the Atroxes, one will still need to face the possibility of ubers who ‘close’ the rig and shoot anyone who attempts to come near the rig. Once you do get there, it can be empty and pretty boring. The most interesting part of the rig is getting there. There is a huge Battlefield to the north. Bodies, armor and debris litter the landscape.

Related History

According to various accounts from players of Project Entropia who have been playing for a long time, the Oil Rig used to be like the one described in this topic on Entropia Pioneers Forums. The Oil Rig used to be a social gathering place with Atrox circling the area around the oil rig. People also remember of times when veterans forced the orange-wearing new players to queue up in a row to collect oil.

Additionally, it has been documented that at various times of the month, the rig would be attacked by a random species of mobs. There were also no hills, also known as bunkers, at that time as the picture on the right shows.
