Speculation refers to a topic or idea that has been unconfirmed in the game. Mindark has designed the Entropia Universe in a way which does not reveal to the players exactly how everything works. For example, nobody really knows how loot is distributed amongst the killed mobs, or what scopes and laser sights really do. An entire group of people from the The ED Laboratory has been assigned to find, investigate and test these 'myths'.

Scopes and Laser Sights

Inside the game scopes and laser sights are said to increase skill modification by a particular percentage. It is unclear exactly how this modification occurs and which skills are modified. When added on to the weapon, these attachments do not modify Hit Ability or any other weapon property. The attachments do no modify your skill points in Aim or any other section. It is known for sure that these attachments will not increase your weapon's damage.

Mindark has stated that they do not reveal the workings of in-game dynamics, but have confirmed that these attachments do help in the act of hunting and are not there simply as a decoration.

The only visible advantage of using these attachments is the ability to zoom in on the target while using a weapon equipped with a scope.

In February 2007, Recoda did some research using different scopes and lasers. He investigated not only if they actually helped hunters be more efficient, but did research on whether or not damaged attachments were better than fully repaired attachments. The results were quite interesting as they revealed that Skill Modification influences the Hit Ability on the weapon, even though it is not displayed in the weapon's statistics screen. More shocking, the results showed that broken attachments actually made your Hit Ability worse than using no attachments at all.

These tests were done with weapons which did not have max Hit Ability (10/10). Further testing was done by Recoda with maxed weapons which revealed that scopes and lasers had little or no affect on them.

Conclusions

1. Plausible: Using damaged attachments has been confirmed to decrease your weapon's Hit Ability. It is better not to use any attachments than to use damaged ones.
2. Plausible: Using attachments on weapons which have been maxed out does little or no affect. It is better not to use any attachments on these weapons as they will only cause you to lose money via decay.
3. Plausible: Using fully repaired attachments on weapons which have not been maxed out increased their Hit Ability by the attachment's noted Skill Modification percentage.
