Talk:New Oxford
From Entropia Directory wiki

- Hey JD and mrproper, do you think New Oxford should be mapped? There might be a high potential for people using this map, especially since e.g. the Art Galleries in New Oxford have a very complicated and at times confusing layout. --> or at least enough for MA to put up "Exit" signs...
- Felicity
- Not that I get a vote, but YES YES YES YES YES!! :) And include Billton Towers on the map, or a separate one. :) *nods in agreement with herself*
- mrproper
- :)
- JD
- Was going to jump in and Map the town ASAP, at work at the moment though! If someone has the time I just need the coords (no reference required). screenshots of coordinates in chat by pressing P are fine - dont need the refernce as it all falls into place naturally - Just need key points and corners of building etc! If no-one has uploaded or sent info i will do the Town Map tonight (tommorow Am in MA time).
- The Buildings like the Art Gallery are the ones that do actually need a map, so maybe we should start there and work back out to the town! Any thoughts? (would be cool to do a 3d multi-level map and render it from a few different angles).
- Dan
- Yup... that would be kewl... I was thinking, maybe could round up a few noobs, pay them a PED each and do the mapping together...or something...
- Hm... are we going to map the interior of the buildings as well? Also, @JD, do you have the software for creating a 3D multi-level map?
- Felicity
- I want to help (I definitely have a vested interest since I've moved my salon there!!) but I'm confused what you need .. so don't sketch out where things are, just note coordinates all around the buildings and you'll graph them that way?? I can start with the Billton Towers if you'd like, since you guys are focussing on NO so I'm not duplicating efforts.
- Just clarify what exactly you want me to do and consider it done. :)
- If you're serious about paying some noobs (minimally, of course) to help, I have some new soc members who would probably love the opportunity.
- mrproper
- WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET.
- How mapping works... first option is to gather space position points (x,y,h) for some key locations. You need some to make complex geometric structures, such as a location for each corner. Simetric structures (lines, squares, rectangles, circles, cubes) need only 2 positions.
- The second option is to use a reference measure and sketch a flat plan. If you combine the two, the paper version will be digitized to perfection and you can create the paper version again, with perfection. That is if the coords are ok.
- Felicity
- Okay, so for clarification -- what information can I gather to provide to you do do the big word shape graph map creation stuff you talked about? lol :)
- P.S. The images added to this page are totally screwing up the text. UPDATE: I changed the table code to resolve.
- mrproper
- oh, they looked ok to me, my bad :) Thanks for the edit, I keep telling Danny to use smaller pics :/
- Note the information you can provide has been bolded in my above post. Simple test, make a square sketch, go to one corner ingame, press P, write data, go to the other, press P, write down that position, and you can recreate it again later on a map.
- Felicity
- Okay I'll work on collecting coords and graphing. :) As for the layout, the problem was that it was set-up as a 4-column table .. with text in column 1, then 1 photo each in columns 2-4. I modified so that the photos are above the text not part of the same row/table.
- Dan
- Oh my bad... bugs in HTML code! Ahs! My coding ability has been screwed! ;) Sorry about that... it looked okay for me, so didn't see the bug. I'll try to help with the mapping if I have time. Btw, how much mapping data are we talking about? 3D / 2D? The entire floor layout of the buildings? Or just the overview of New Oxford?
- mrproper
- JD found a cool proggie, I found an even cooler one, but since he is not sharing his, neither am I :)
- 2D data will do
- JD
- Mine is Maya which has an open end, and a mate did some coding for me to customize it for 3D map creation. So for buildings I can use 3D coords. for outside I just need 2D coords. Mine just drops a small Marker at the coordinates which can be linked to others later for more complex models.
- Heres a list of the coords that we need to collect!
- The Shore line around the Island
- External marker points of single Objects all over the island (TP, Pillars, Revive, Bridge start & Ends).
- External marker points of Buildings (corners, Doorways, etc)
- Internal marker points of Buildings per Floor.
- If you have collected some coordinates or employed someone to! Add them to a Page (Mrproper to create, possibly restricted) and also add to the page what you are currently collecting. Once we have all the coords we can decide what is the ideal program to use!
