Main discussion

Sir Odd
Will this be squarely around Entropia Forum, or will this expand to other major forums as well?
JD
Let it evolve as you wish, but its certainly open to all forums. Link to a topic and summarize the discussion so far in your words and be open for the next person to add and edit.
JD
Latest Post column can be replaced by some kind of rating system!
Well keep the current topics at the top, exclude the crap threads, and keep the valuable info threads 'Worth Reading' around for longer!
Details summaries are now required, once youve read the whole thread, avoid someone else (ME!!!) having to wade through all the crap for two lines of value! :))))))
Sir Odd
Ok, think I have a sort of rank system in-place for time being...
Rank notes position on the chart, while popularity is based on the forum's 5-star rating system (Taking 5 stars as 100, 4 as 80, etc., 1 star = %20), or if no star rating by # of post. These ratings will be changed/modified as it goes worked out further...

JD
Looks great Sir Odd, Rank will become our grading as to its value in regards to information worth reading.
Yumi

can i know why the topic i put being delected from the table? the topic is "What nationality are you, and is English your mother tongue?" http://www.entropiaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62193 this topic is still active

Sir Odd
Since neither the "What Nationality are you?" or "What creatures would you like to see" had new post in a week, they were bumped off. But if there are new post today, I will re-add them to the list.
Sir Odd
I will be removing the sweat price thread off the list, as there are dozens of those, and whine threads are not hot topics. If JD or someone else deems this thread viewable it will be put back.

JD
What we are looking for here is a selection of VALUABLE, INFORMATION Threads. Not just a recreation of EF's "Latest Posts". And a reader should then be able to read all the value from the detailed summary.... We all spend hours wading through the same crap posts to get anything worthy of our time, lets help each other out here!!! > Read IT >> Summarize IT >>> Publish it here >>>>
Sir Odd
ahhh...I wasn't placing much rating for either valuable or information before. Ok then...I removed a chunk of threads from the list that did not cover those, and following the two factors above I'm guessing any event threads are also out of the question (which I guess is dumb since they're covered in another part of ED anyhow).
Another thing I'm considering is removing the 'popularity' bar, as the ranking bar covers the importance of the thread, and having two bars covering the same topic is confusing...
Do these ideas sound favorable for the main objectives?
Midori
Here are my thoughts on the situation:
We should be looking at this with a different perspective. Instead of removing threads every few days, we should be adding ones that will have long term value. Links to guides, research, worthwhile debates about where EU is going in the future, etc. These types of threads could be kept in the report for 6 months or more before becoming irrelevant.
We could add some short term threads if they are of significant value (e.g. the 101 auction bug thread. Very important short term news, but obsolete after a few days).
Having just one method of ranking is a good idea. I have incorporated it into my template below.
Midori
I have split the page into separate sections based on the content of the thread. Is this a good idea, or should we go back to the old design?
Sir Odd
Keep the headers, dump the hide functions!
Sir Odd
'No server' thread being informative and hot topic? Should smack someone around a bit ~_^ But yes, it does need updating =)

Template

Usage:

{{Forum Report top}}
{{Forum Report|Thread link=
|Thread title=
|Brief title=
|Summary=
|Rating=
}}
{{Forum Report|Thread link=
|Thread title=
|Brief title=
|Summary=
|Rating=
}}
{{Forum Report end}}

Example:

Topic Name Short Description Date of thread ED Rating
Recent changes thread Testing

A very boring test of how this template works. Not really worth your time reading.

Main points:

  1. An easier way to write forum reports
  2. A good example of how to set out a report
  3. Slight problem with being unable to include the "show-hide" function

Quote:

"This truly is a boring example of how to use a template"

Random page thread Randomnessity

A completely random example

Main points:

  1. Completely random
  2. Good novelty factor
  3. Tells you everything... eventually

"I can't believe I am writing this"

I have created this template based on the existing table and some of the comments above. I would welcome any ideas you have about how to improve it. Unfortunately, the show-hide functionality does not seem to work properly in the template, so I have removed it.
