This is a proposal for a revised shop category structure I have placed here for discussion. Feel free to comment or make any amendments.
[edit]
Category structure
Housing:
- Furniture - more than 50% of stock is made up of furniture
- Decorations - more than 50% of stock is made up of decorative items
- Deeds - more than 50% of stock is made up of property deeds
- Plants - more than 50% of stock is made up of plants and flowers
- Housing - more than 50% of stock is made up of housing related items (use this if none of the above categories will fit)
Pets, Taming:
- Pet deeds - more than 50% of stock is made up of pet deeds.
- Pet care - more than 50% of stock is made up of pet tools (brushes, whips, etc.) or pet food (nutrio bars).
- Pets, Taming - more than 50% of stock is made up of any pet related items (use this if none of the above categories will fit)
Hunting Equipment:
- Armor - more than 50% of stock is made up of armour or plates (need to work out spelling problem Armour or Armor? This may affect the search function)
- Weapons - more than 50% of stock is made up of weapons or weapon attachments
- Healing - more than 50% of stock is made up of healing tools
- Mindforce - more than 50% of stock is made up of Mindforce related items (chips, implants, etc.)
- Hunting Equipment - more than 50% of stock is made up of hunting related items (use this if none of the above categories will fit)
Skills, Rare items
- Skills - more than 50% of stock is made up of skill chips
- Rare items - more than 50% of stock is made up of Rare items (how would we define "rare"?)
- Skills, Rare items - more than 50% of stock is made up of hunting related items (use this if none of the above categories will fit)
Clothes, Fashion:
- I am not sure how to break this one up.
- Perhaps:
- Basic clothing
- Expensive clothing
Crafting Supplies:
- Minerals - more than 50% of stock is made up of Ore and Enmatter stacks (may want to divide this category into Ore & Enmatter)
- Tailoring - more than 50% of stock is made up of tailoring materials
- Colouring shop - more than 50% of stock is made up of colouring items (paint, bleachers, colorers) - As with Armour store the exact spelling needs to be decided.
- Blueprints - more than 50% of stock is made up of blueprints
- Components - more than 50% of stock is made up of crafted components
- Crafting Supplies - more than 50% of stock is made up of crafting related items (use this if none of the above categories will fit)
Mining Equipment:
- Enmatter Mining - more than 50% of stock is made up of enmatter mining tools or attachments
- Ore Mining - more than 50% of stock is made up of ore mining tools or attachments
- Mining Equipment - more than 50% of stock is made up of mining related items (use this if none of the above categories will fit)
Discount stores:
- Proposed definition:
- Over 50% of stock is sold for just TT+1 (Is there a level of tolerance here? i.e. Up to TT+1.5?)
Department stores:
- Another definition problem.
- Perhaps a store that has 10 items from 3 of the main categories (e.g. 10 hunting items, 10 crafting items and 10 pieces of furniture)
Mixed items, Loot:
- All shops selling items that do not qualify for any of the above categories.
Hair, Beauty:
- Hair - offering just hair related treatments (colouring & styling)
- Beauty - offering just body/face sculpting
- Hair, Beauty - offering a full range of treatments
Travel, Flying:
- No need to break this down, I think.
Services:
- What other services are on offer, and how can they be updated? How can we tell if a service is still operating?

- I think naming a category via the item and avoid ___ Store. So Plants instead of florist. Armor instead of Armour Store.
- That way we can write someones Category as Armor, Weapons, Attachments. or Hair & Beauty.
- Keep it to one word if possible..?
- 'Pet care' becomes hard?
- Healing on its own could work, as does mindforce
- Maybe Housing could be the overall category for Estate Deeds, Plants, Furniture and we drop real estate?
- Tools is a word often used by shop owners
- A discount Store I would consider TT+1 as thats the min you sell stuff in a shop, or just shops with Newbish gear
- Other Services are - Fappers, Colorers. but yeah this would have to be regulated from their EF Thread and its last update.
Ok, something to think about..... back soon!

- I have updated the structure based on your comments and added the skills & rare items category that I had forgotten. The only problem I see with single word categories is where a category could be interpreted 2 ways; Enmatter - stacks or tools?; Coloring - supplies or a service? Tools would be another confusing word unless it is combined with something else; Crafting tools, Mining tools, etc.
- Grading
- And about the Services, I have been trying check on some of the services on EF but it is hard to update them all the time. Maybe we could specifically watch some of the bigger ones and any other ones that sponsor us then just update the others every so often?

- On the subject of categories; why did you remove Mar's Melange from the mixed items/loot category? I don't minf if you have a more appropriate category for it, but it dosen't seem to be in any category now.
- Midori
- Sorry about that. I was removing dead links from that category as dead links indicate shops that no longer exist. In your case it was your old apartment shop that was removed, but your new shop in Thorkell's Tomb had not yet been added. I have now corrected the situation. Thank you for pointing out the error. :)
- Antonio
- Cool. Thanks Midori :)

- Getting back on topic, I have found it hard keeping track of the shop category lists. The only way to make sure they are up to date is to open every shop listing and comparing the assigned category to what is shown in "What links here".
- To resolve this I think it would be a good idea to set up "Category:" pages for each shop category and assign every shop to one of them. Anyone updating the shop category lists can then compare the list to the "Category:" page instead of searching through a hundred sub-pages.
- If this idea is accepted, we can just replace the existing shop category entries on each shop listing with a template that assigns a category automatically. Like so:
- 'Removed' - idea doesn't work due to conflicts between two templates
- Any comments on this one?
- JD
- Yeah, excellent! anything that makes this easier!!!
